Often big-ticket purchases like these are driven by the desire to "out do" your close circle. I do believe, however, that having a hook to hang "getting it passed the missus" is very worthwhile. Men will at least pretend to care about the ice caps and global warming, when in fact, they're more concerned with having a flashy TV to play Halo on!

Buy Samsung UE40B7020W 40" Ultra Thin LED TV - Stock Checker And Avaliability

So you're interested in buying the Samsung UE40B7020W 40" Ultra Thin LED TV? Four v1.3 HDMIs set a great early pace, and these are joined by such other highlights as a component video input, a dedicated analogue PC input and, significantly, USB 2.0 and Ethernet ports.

* CNET - ?

We have to say, just a few moments spent with the Samsung 40B7000 have really impressed us. But being able to download decent content direct from my TV without having another set-top box would be something I would seriously consider.

But what does it mean for Apple TV? Well I don't see that box setting the world alight! A TV is not just for watching television programmes on, its a bragging tool just like a Ferrari or private jet is to some. The Laser TV is not cheap, being several times cheaper than a sports car, it still is something to wow your peers with.

He makes a startling, but accurate assertion, however. HE states that the LaserVue is "the best home-entertainment display in America."

The price at $6.999 (£4.5k ish) is not something you'd want to pay in this economic climate - unless you were liquidising your positions and turning them into physical assets ;-)

There's no real techy review here, but that's for the geek porn mags, this review is about the status symbol that is Laser TV

LaserVue Owners Manual And Guide

So you've got 4 HDMI ports, S-Video, Composite video, Audio inputs, Component video inputs and of course, 2 antenna ports - looking good! The vice president of marketing at Mitsubishi Digital has said that they want to differentiate its brand from the "sea of sameness" that is currently on offer in the high-end TV market.

Sony may offer some fairly unique products but I'm confident that the LaserVue will end up kicking some Sony HD butt!

Frank DeMartin siad "“Flat panel TVs are commoditizing so rapidly that it’s hard to differentiate our products,” he said. “Flat has already been done—it’s time to move on and do something new." Too right! They're as cheap as chips now with people having them in their bedrooms, living room and even kitchens. The LaserVue will offer something different!

There's still no concrete information about the prices, but they're apparently due to debut next month. What we do know, however, is their target audience. There's two distinct types of buyer they're aiming for:

1) "The Home Theater family"
DeMartin describes these as families as ones "who tend to watch TV and movies together, who find TV-watching to be a valuable family experience ... they play a lot of video games and tend toward larger-screen TVs.”

2) The "Golden Guy"
DeMartin describes this guy as "a little more affluent and tends to want the best of all the products they own".

Source: OCBJ.com

OLED, SED, FED, Laser TV

There'll be so much choice later this year - we hope. As the first-ever laser-powered television, LaserVue will deliver a range of color never before seen in home entertainment. Precise and focused, the purity of laser light surpasses current high-definition technologies. Today's HDTVs display less than 40 percent of the color spectrum that the eye can see. Now, for the first time ever, laser produces twice the color. Laser beams provide the widest range of rich, complex colors, along with the most clarity and depth of field.

Mitsubishi LaserVue TVs not only provide the ultimate picture quality, they are also capable of delivering a true 3D viewing experience. In addition, they are environmentally friendly, consuming approximately one-half the power of today's LCD TVs, and approximately one-third the power consumption of plasma TVs.

"Mitsubishi has created a new category in television with laser technology and now we are creating an exciting new brand, LaserVue, which we believe consumers will come to equate with the industry's best performing televisions," continued DeMartin.

And the NY Times has a nice piece on it here.
